About Chris

Chris is a representative who works with the community to make our region a better more accessible, more inclusive, and more livable for all people.

Shoreline residents first elected Chris to the Shoreline City Council in 2009, and reelected him in 2013 and 2017. He was selected by his colleagues to serve as Mayor in 2016 and 2017. On the Council, he represents the region as a member of the Puget Sound Regional Council Executive Board and the Association of Washington Cities Legislative Committee. Chris serves as the City’s representative to the Sound Cities Association and has served as the City’s representative to WIRA-8 Salmon Recovery Council and the King County Growth Management Policy Council.

As Mayor, Chris pushed for the adoption of a proclamation declaring Shoreline to be a safe and welcoming city for all, was honored as an "Advocacy All-Star" by the Association of Washington Cities for his work testifying in Olympia and in Washington DC. He is a member of the Mayors Against LGBT Discrimination coalition and a member the Safe Energy Leadership Alliance.

Before running for public office, Chris served as the Legislative Assistant for Oregon State Representative Bill Garrard and taught classes at the University of Washington in the Department of Political Science and the Evans School of Public Affairs. He earned his undergraduate degree from Willamette University in 2000 and completed his Ph.D in political science from the University of Washington in 2012. 

He owns a small consulting company and currently volunteers for our schools as the Legislative Representative for his son’s PTSA. 

Chris is an enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and is a member of the National Writers Union

With his wife Heather, and their son, Clark, Chris resides in Shoreline.
